What will the counter-tariff add?

Canada's surtaxes on US-origin goods take effect September 8, 2026. Pick a category, pick the tariff line your goods fall under, and enter what you will declare. Every rate here is read off the Department of Finance list - 648 tariff items - and the item number behind each figure is shown with it.

Before you trust a number from this page

This is an estimate, not a customs ruling. It multiplies a declared value by a rate taken from a named line of the official list. It does not classify your goods for you, it does not know your supply chain, and it is not the figure on your customs entry. Classification and origin are the importer's responsibility. For anything commercial, confirm both with a licensed customs broker, or ask the Canada Border Services Agency for an advance ruling.

Two questions decide the answer and only one of them is about the product. The surtax applies to goods originating in the United States, which is a question about the factory rather than the brand - so the calculator asks it before it shows you any money. And ten of the 39 categories here carry more than one rate, which is why it asks which line your goods sit on instead of averaging them into a rate that appears on no list at all.

Rates are as of August 27, 2026 and they move. This list lost 254 tariff items - all of fish and seafood - between 26 and 27 August 2026, and remission orders routinely follow a round of counter-tariffs. Check the official Department of Finance list before committing money.

1 What are you importing?

These are the same categories as the directory. Pick the closest match - this tool does not guess an HS code from a product description, and a guessed classification is worse than an honest range.

2 Which tariff line?

3 Where was it made?

Is the country of origin marked on the product or its carton the United States?

The badge on the front does not answer this. An American brand that manufactures in Mexico is outside the measure; a German or Korean brand that manufactures in North Carolina or Tennessee is inside it. The country-of-origin marking is what customs goes on.

4 Value and who is importing

Use the value you will declare - the value for duty - not the sticker price, if the two differ. If you are converting from US dollars, convert first: this page does no currency conversion and holds no exchange rate.

Who is bringing it in?

This changes what is worth telling you afterwards, not the arithmetic. Personal exemptions and parcel thresholds matter on one path; value for duty, drawback and classification on the other.
