Cars and light trucks
Passenger cars are on the list at 25%, and unusually for this list there is no gap to find: petrol, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric each have their own line and every one of them was taken. Electric cars are named on their own item, 8703.80.00. Light trucks and vans up to 5 tonnes are 25% on the same pattern. The only absence is 8703.21, petrol cars under 1,000 cc, and that is a curiosity rather than advice - almost nothing sold in Canada is that small. This is the largest purchase on the entire list, so 25% here is worth more in dollars than every other entry on this site put together.

What people get wrong
This is the whole argument of this site in its purest form, and it is the one category where you do not have to take our word for anything. The surtax follows the factory, not the badge. A Toyota built in Kentucky is US-origin and surtaxed; a Volkswagen built in Puebla is not. And unlike a dishwasher, every car carries its build country stamped on it: the first character of the VIN. 1, 4 or 5 means the United States. 2 means Canada. 3 means Mexico. J is Japan, K is Korea, W is Germany. The VIN is on the dashboard at the base of the windshield, on the door jamb sticker, and on the insurance slip. Check it before you take any claim about a car seriously, including ours - most popular models are built at more than one plant, and which one built yours can change between model years and even between trims.

- Not US-madeConfirmed by the maker
Where it is made: Cambridge, Ontario; NX also Japan
The sharpest inversion on this site. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada says its Cambridge South plant builds the Lexus RX 350, RX 350h and RX 500h, and its Cambridge North plant builds the Lexus NX alongside the RAV4. No US plant builds either model - the NX is otherwise built in Japan - so neither is caught by these tariffs. The German luxury SUVs they are cross-shopped against are US-built and are. Marked not-us-origin rather than made-in-canada only because an NX may have come from Japan.
Chrysler and Dodge
Pacifica, Grand Caravan, Charger Daytona and Charger SIXPACK

Made in CanadaConfirmed by the makerWhere it is made: Windsor, Ontario
Stellantis' own plant page lists Windsor Assembly's products as the Chrysler Pacifica, the Chrysler Grand Caravan (Canadian market only), the Dodge Charger Daytona and the Dodge Charger SIXPACK. American nameplates, Ontario factory, and on origin they are the ones not surtaxed. The refreshed 2027 Pacifica started there in May 2026. Listed because the badge points the wrong way here.
- Depends on the modelConfirmed by the maker
Where it is made: Cambridge and Woodstock, Ontario; also Georgetown, Kentucky and Takaoka, Japan
The most important row here, and the reason this entry leads with the VIN. Most RAV4s sold in North America still come from Toyota's Cambridge and Woodstock plants in Ontario. But Toyota announced that Georgetown, Kentucky started building the RAV4 Hybrid on 22 June 2026, which means RAV4s on Canadian lots are now a mix of Ontario-built and Kentucky-built units, and the Kentucky ones are US-origin. Canada's best-selling SUV, and the badge cannot tell you which one you are looking at. The VIN can.

Where it is made: Alliston, Ontario and Greensburg, Indiana
Honda's own Indiana plant page lists the Civic Hatchback, Civic Hatchback Hybrid, CR-V and CR-V Hybrid as built at Greensburg, Indiana. Honda also builds both models at Alliston, Ontario, where the 11 millionth Canadian-built Honda - a 2026 Civic Hybrid - came off the line in October 2025. Broadly the sedan is Ontario and the hatchback is Indiana, but Honda has been shifting Civic hybrid volume toward Indiana, so that split should not be relied on. Marked reported rather than verified because Honda's Canadian manufacturing page was unreachable when this was checked and only the US half is confirmed from Honda's own material.
Not what you would guess

Where it is made: Spartanburg, South Carolina
BMW calls Spartanburg the "Home of X", and it is: the X3, X5, X6, X7 and XM are assembled in South Carolina, and BMW says the plant exported nearly 200,000 X models in 2025, making it the largest US automotive exporter by value. A BMW X5 bought in Canada is therefore very likely US-origin and surtaxed at 25%, while a 3 Series from Germany or Mexico is not. Marked mixed because BMW builds the X3 at more than one plant worldwide. The VIN settles it: a 5 means Spartanburg.
Mercedes-Benz
GLE, GLE Coupe, GLS, Maybach GLS, EQE SUV and EQS SUV

Depends on the modelConfirmed by the makerWhere it is made: Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Mercedes-Benz says the GLE, GLE Coupe and GLS, the AMG variants and the Maybach GLS are assembled at Tuscaloosa for all global markets, along with the electric EQE and EQS SUVs. "For all global markets" is the phrase that matters - a GLE sold in Canada is an Alabama-built vehicle and is surtaxed. The new GLE and GLS had their world premiere at the Alabama plant in March 2026. Marked mixed because other Mercedes models are built in Germany and elsewhere and are unaffected.

Where it is made: Lincoln, Alabama
Honda describes its Lincoln, Alabama plant as the exclusive production home of the Pilot and Passport, including TrailSport models, the Odyssey minivan and the Ridgeline pickup. Exclusive means there is no other source: if you are buying one of these four in Canada, it is US-origin and it is surtaxed. Marked mixed because it is a statement about four models, not about Honda - the Civic and CR-V in the same showroom may well be from Ontario.
